The Importance of Wellness in the Workplace

Most people spend the majority of their waking hours at work. And for many of us, work can be a major source of stress. So it stands to reason that our workplace wellbeing has a big impact on our overall health and happiness.

Fortunately, more and more companies are beginning to realize the importance of workplace wellness and are taking steps to promote employee health and happiness. Here are just a few reasons why wellness in the workplace is so important.

1. Promotes productivity. When employees are healthy and happy, they’re more productive. It’s simple math, really. And there’s plenty of research to back it up. In fact, one study found that employees who took part in a wellness program were 13% more productive than those who didn’t.

2. Reduces absenteeism. Another benefit of workplace wellness is that it reduces absenteeism. This not only benefits the company in terms of productivity but also saves the company money on health insurance costs. One study found that for every dollar invested in workplace wellness, there was a $3 return in reduced medical costs and absenteeism.

3. Improves morale. When employees feel like their employer cares about their health and wellbeing, they’re more likely to be satisfied with their job and stay with the company long-term. In fact, one study found that employees who felt their employer was concerned about their health had 34% higher job satisfaction than those who didn’t feel that way.

There are plenty of good reasons for companies to invest in workplace wellness programs. Not only does it promote employee productivity and reduce absenteeism, but it also improves morale and job satisfaction. So if your company doesn’t have a workplace wellness program yet, now might be the time to start one!
